What is Atlantic Networks for Prevention Research (ANPR)?

A collaboration among Research Centres at four Atlantic Universities:
Dalhousie University                                   University of New Brunswick
Memorial University of Newfoundland     University of Prince Edward Island

  • A network of networks, focusing on health of communities, workplaces, and schools
  • Supported by a Data Development Center
  • Funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Population and Public Health

Goals:

  1. To enhance capacity for research in illness and injury prevention and health promotion in Atlantic Canada
  2. To better understand and address the health impacts of social and physical environments through research development, knowledge translation, training and mentoring

ANPR NETWORKS  

ANPR consists of Atlantic-wide networks of researchers, policy makers, practitioners, and community organizers, each based at one of the university centres:


Workplace Research Unit, Newfoundland & Labrador
SafetyNet, Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research
Memorial University of Newfoundland

Focusing on occupational illness and injury prevention in workplaces and promoting Occupational Health and Safety research and training in the region.

Communities Research Unit, Nova Scotia
Atlantic Health Promotion Research Centre

The Community Research Unit consists of two sub-research units:

Communities & Health Research Network: Development and use of community-level data to clarify impacts of social and physical environments on health.

Public Health Research and Knowledge Translation Network: Focusing on infrastructure improvements to the publicly-funded health system.

School Health Research Network, Prince Edward Island
PEI Health Research Institute
University of Prince Edward Island

Assessing school health prevention initiatives and building infrastructure to support school health research.
Team Lead: Donna Murnaghan

Data Development Centre, New Brunswick
Canadian Research Institute for Social Policy (CRISP)
University of New Brunswick

Specializing in the analysis of longitudinal health data and the linking of survey data to a comprehensive geographical information system.
